Getting started

What is Email Designer Pro?

It's a no-code, data-driven email template builder. You design one email visually, connect a CSV or JSON of recipients, and it generates a personalised copy for every person — exported as production-ready MJML and HTML.

Do I need to install anything?

Yes — Email Designer Pro is a desktop app. Grab the installer for macOS or Windows from the download page, install it once, and it runs completely offline. No browser tab, and no account needed to start designing.

Do I need to know how to code?

Not at all. You build emails by clicking blocks into a live canvas and styling them with simple controls. When you personalise, a point-and-click Insert Field picker drops in merge fields for you. Email Designer Pro writes the clean HTML and MJML behind the scenes.

How do I get started?

Open the app and click New Project (or start from a template). Add blocks from the left panel, edit them in the properties panel on the right, set your brand once, then preview and export. The three-step overview walks through it.

Who is it for?

Anyone who needs email that feels personal at scale — e-commerce and retail teams, marketers, agencies building for clients, and developers who want clean MJML/HTML without hand-coding it.

Features & personalisation

How does personalisation actually work?

Upload a CSV or JSON where each row is a recipient. Then insert merge fields like {{first_name}} anywhere in your content. When you export, each field is replaced with that person's value. You can also format values on the spot — currency, dates, capitalisation, and fallbacks for empty fields.

Can I show different content to different people?

Yes — that's conditional visibility. Any block can be shown only when a rule is true for the recipient, for example tier is any of gold, platinum. You can match one value or a comma-separated list, and choose to hide the block or show fallback content when the rule isn't met.

Can I include a per-recipient product list?

Yes. The Repeater and Table blocks repeat once per item in a recipient's nested list — so a 3-item order shows three rows and a 5-item order shows five. Great for order confirmations and recommendations.

Can I compute new fields from my data?

Yes, with a no-code field builder: do simple maths (e.g. price × quantity), join text together, or make if-then rules. Computed fields behave exactly like columns from your file.

Can I reuse my branding and templates?

Yes. Set your brand colours, fonts and button styles once and apply them everywhere, and save any design as a reusable template (Pro). Projects also keep a version history so you can restore an earlier draft.

Can I show a block on mobile but not desktop?

Yes. Each block has device-visibility controls, so you can show or hide it on phone, tablet or desktop independently.

Export & sending

What formats can I export?

Both MJML (the responsive email markup that compiles to bulletproof HTML) and the compiled HTML itself. The files are yours — there's no lock-in.

How does batch export work?

With a data source loaded, Batch Export generates one personalised email per recipient and bundles them into a single ZIP, alongside a campaign metadata file (recipient ids, addresses, per-recipient subject and preview text). You can name files by number or by a field.

What is the searchable PDF archive?

An optional add-on to batch export: a pixel-exact PDF copy of every email, with an invisible but fully searchable text layer, for compliance and record-keeping. It looks exactly like the email and you can Ctrl-F / select the text.

Does it send the emails for me?

No — and that's deliberate. Email Designer Pro designs and exports send-ready files; you send them through your existing email platform or ESP, so you keep full control of deliverability and your sending reputation.

Will my email look right in Outlook and Gmail?

The exported HTML is table-based and mobile-responsive and is checked against Outlook, Gmail and Apple Mail, with built-in compatibility warnings. Outlook uses Word's rendering engine and has quirks no tool can fully preview, so exporting via MJML and sending yourself a test before a big campaign is always wise.

Data & privacy

Where does my recipient data go?

Nowhere but your own computer. Your designs and imported data are processed on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for the details.

Is my saved work encrypted?

Yes. Projects saved in the app are encrypted at rest with AES-256 on your computer. Because the data lives on your device, remember to keep your own backups of anything important.

Does the site track me?

We use Google Analytics to understand how the website is used so we can improve it, and we store your light/dark theme preference. We don't use advertising or profiling cookies. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on. Your email designs and imported data are never tracked — they stay on your computer. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Is it compliant for marketing email?

Email Designer Pro helps you build compliant footers and unsubscribe links, but you're responsible for how you send. That means following laws like New Zealand's Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 (and GDPR / CAN-SPAM where relevant) — emailing people who've consented, identifying yourself, and offering a working unsubscribe.

Pricing, licence & refunds

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Free lets you design static emails with the core blocks and export them as HTML — great for simple, one-off sends. Pro (a one-off NZ$49) unlocks the data-driven side: CSV/JSON import, merge fields, conditional blocks, all 17 content blocks, MJML export and batch export, plus PDF archives, brand styles and no export badge. Full breakdown on the pricing section.

How much is Pro, and is it a subscription?

Pro is a one-off NZ$49 — not a subscription. Pay once and it's yours.

Can I use it for client work?

Yes. A Pro licence lets you design emails for your own business or for clients. For multiple seats or agency-wide use, get in touch about team licensing.

Do I get updates?

Yes — your Pro purchase includes ongoing improvements to the app.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If Pro isn't right for you, email us within 14 days of purchase for a full refund — see the Refund Policy. Your New Zealand consumer rights also apply.

Do you offer team or enterprise plans?

Yes — an Enterprise option adds shared team templates, cloud sync and additional controls. Contact us for details.

Support & troubleshooting

My images aren't showing in the PDF archive.

That usually means the image host didn't allow cross-origin (CORS) reads. Host your images somewhere CORS-permissive, or export HTML only. In general, use images hosted at public URLs — emails can't bundle local files.

The PDF export is slow for a large batch.

PDF archiving renders each email one at a time, so large lists take a while. The app shows a live progress bar and a time estimate, and keeps the tab responsive — just keep it open and in the foreground until the download starts. For very large lists, export HTML only or split into smaller batches.

A merge tag came through as text instead of a value.

That means the tag didn't match a field (often a typo) or the field was empty. The app shows a warning listing unknown fields; fix the tag, or add a fallback so empty values never leave a stray {{tag}}.
